The BRAMM Memorial Fixer Licence Assessment
More and more Burial Authorities are asking for proof of competence from memorial masonry firms. The BRAMM Fixer Licence provides this proof to Competent memorial fixers.
A Memorial Masonry Company must be registered with BRAMM or be in the process of doing so before fixers can be entered for assessment.
The BRAMM Fixer Licence assessment is designed for experienced memorial fixers to prove their competence in fixing a lawn memorial and demonstrate background knowledge and understanding of BS 8415, as it applies to lawn memorials.
The fixer licence is obtained by completing both:
The BRAMM Blue Book
Fixer candidates will be required to be familiar with the BRAMM Blue Book and have either a paper copy or a digital copy on their phone available for reference during both the online and practical assessments. Where necessary, the assessor will be asking the fixer to refer to the Blue Book.
The Online Theory Test
The online Theory Test comprises 56 questions with multiple-choice answers. This tests the knowledge and understanding of BS 8415. It is an open-book assessment so fixers may refer to the BRAMM Blue Book and Theory Test Video, but they must get 100% correct. Fixers may have three attempts and there is no time limit. Fixers must have access to either a PC, laptop or tablet. A mobile phone screen will be too small!
The Practical Assessment
Fixers can have a Standard Fixer Assessment at a familiar cemetery of their choice, or attend a Regional Centre Assessment Day run by a BRAMM Assessor in his own district. (Dates and Locations advertised in BRAMM News)
The BRAMM Assessor will meet you at the agreed location, then talk you through the assessment process so you know exactly what to expect.
You will complete a Risk Assessment of the “mock” burial area then unload your vehicle before fixing a 2’6″ overall height, 3″ thick granite lawn memorial on a pre-cast concrete foundation using an accredited ground anchor together with dowels and cement paste.
More detailed information can be found on our Pre-Assessment Information Form
The above may not be your normal method for fixing memorials but, to ensure equality, BRAMM will be using this method of fixing on assessments throughout the UK, you may possibly need to obtain the correct materials for the BRAMM Assessment..
Your Assessor will take a minimum of 30 photographs throughout the session as evidence of your work. You will be informed on the day if you are successful.
